To Be Recalled
“Sir, are you sure?” said the junior coder, Heath.
Captain Spec pursed his lips. He was aware of the consequences; they needed a life-threatening technical error to be recalled by central command. He refused to be stranded out here another 389 days. “Yes,” he said tersely. It was a reasonable loss.
“I can’t.”
Spec pushed Heath aside, he’d already done most of the work, Spec didn’t need him any longer.
“Wait,” Heath cried uselessly; it was too late. Spec had already cut section B's oxygen supply. Spec turned to the view of sprawling stars, soon he’d be free of it.
